It’s been almost 5 years since Akoya Afrobeat has been in the studio. Since then or members have performed on Broadway with Fela! The Musical, traveled the US and abroad with varied musical projects and even brought new children into the world! We’ve all been busy but the stars are finally in alignment and plans are underway for a brand new Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble release to be recorded Summer 2012. Our fans have been begging for new grooves for years and we want you to know we’ve heard you!

Be on the lookout for upcoming shows in NYC and information about how YOU can help Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble produce our new record. Very soon you’ll be hearing about our exciting Kickstarter Campaign to get you involved in the creation of new Afrobeat music. We’ll be putting on some great performances in preparation for the studio so you won’t want to miss these shows.

Studio BPM is the home of Akoya Afrobeat. We have gathered and rehearsed here since 2002. When Studio BPM asked for our help at their One-year Anniversary Japan disaster fundraising event we knew we had to lend a hand. It was a great show and we helped BPM raise $7,000 for continued disaster relief efforts in Japan.
